I have no idea where this film came from, probably the same list as Home Run, as it seems in the same ilk. iMDB treats this horribly - giving it a 5.5, and some of the reviews that follow put that to question, and I probably have to agree with the reviews, as there's more to it than just a slightly disturbing overture.
It's set in the future and handles a tricky subject, and I suppose in a way is a little gory. I explained the concept to someone without them watching the film, and they struggled for any other reaction than "eww".
I think there's quite something to this movie, and if you're going to watch it (I'm not saying you should), then only do so if you like thinking about films, and have the time to focus on it. Don't be put off by the blood.
This one gets a 6.2, and could possibly have been higher but with people whizzing around my head all day I couldn't really focus on it too much.

Home Run - 6.7 : iMDB
I found a list somewhere.. (I really need to save these lists!) of the best limited release films of 2013 to watch, and this was on it.
I struggled to get in to the start of this film, the audio was pretty tiny like a lot of limited releases, but gradually as the film went on I grew in to it. It's quite a nice little story, and there's some quite good acting and some dreadful acting.
Feel good, but not amazing, gets a 6.7!

Shooter - 7.2 : iMDB
I watched this a long time ago, and didn't think much of it, but then I watch a lot of films, and sometimes never really switch on to them...so when people tell me to rewatch things, and when I find out I hadn't even noticed that Michael Pena was in it, I figured i'd give it another go!
Now Michael Pena is one of those guys that could go on to do some really great things, and I think he's been showing that potential for a while, and he's in my 2013 top 5. In this, he's really good, and it's 5 years ago - so again, no idea what I was thinking when I watched it the first time!
The film itself is a simple concept, put together quite nicely, and once you get over the fact it's Wahlberg of old, even he actually plays quite a good part in this film, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it.
I've given it 7.2, very near the IMDb score of 7.1!

Sound City - 8 : iMDB
I knew there was one i'd forgotten about on the plane!
I didn't have any idea what to expect with this, and it's another music documentary, but this time put together by Dave Grohl, who by all accounts, is insanely talented.
I'm not going to say too much about this film, but it's a story of the importance of music and sound above all, and how Grohl has tried to bring together the influences on not only his life but music as a whole to make an album. Which i'm yet to listen to!
So while i'm off finding the album, go ahead and watch this belter, which gets an 8!

2Guns - 7.9 : iMDB
And the 8th film of the weekend...there's nothing quite like an impromptu trip to the cinema on a sunday night and a good catchup with an old mate!
This film got #1 at the US box office and came with some really good reviews, but so did Fast & Furious, so I wasn't sure how good this was going to be.
I'm glad to say that I was really surprised, it's actually put together very well, has some great twists and has a very mild touch of the Tarantinos...
Denzel does what he does, and really plays a very good part in this film, while Wahlberg, who has his critics (me included), actually excels in this. I think it's very much the role is made for him, but at the same time, he still has to make the part his own, and he does it with ease.
I tried to pick faults with this film while watching it, but every time I expected something stupid to happen, it simply didn't.
It gets a 7.9, not quite pushing the 8 barrier, although I was close!

Pain & Gain - 7.3 : iMDB
I noticed someone had mentioned this film this morning so I figured I'd give it a go and see what the deal was. They liked it, so why shouldn't I?
And....it was actually OK, again, another true story, and they make a lot of this in the film. I may go and buy the book that it's based on, it would be a good/funny read I think.
So let's break it down, some bodybuilders, some torture, drugs, and money, oh and stupidness.
I think it's fair to say this films pretty funny, and all three play quite a good role in it, and they make it quite an enjoyable film, especially for a Sunday morning!
It gets a 7.3, so go ahead and watch it!

The Notebook - 8.5 : iMDB
...should I start with getting it out of the way? Yes... I did watch it (three times so far!), and I did so alone... and out of choice!
Now that's out of the way, let's talk about how much of a fantastic story this is, or at least a beautiful way to deliver a traditional tale of love. I don't think there's anything quite so different with the story itself, but the way it's told makes it really hit the spot.
And the way in which James Garner portrays the elderly Noah really does work quite well.
If you like films, watch this, definitely. If you're scared of being judged, then you may want to stay away!
It gets an 8.5.

Into the Wild - 9 : iMDB
I've seen this film before but when a friend of mine started talking about it, I remembered how good it was, so have had to watch it again. I'm always intrigued by 'claimed' true stories, and have found that with this one, it's almost accurate, but that there was a documentary released the same year which I'm going to look in to watching: The Call of the Wild
Have also just read the Sean Penn waited 10 years to make this film out of respect to the family, and had their blessing to make it.
It's an interesting film, and it's a passionate story about a boy that's lost his way. It's very interesting, and i'd recommend everyone to watch it.
Emile Hirsch has always been one of my favourites, and he plays this role fantastically.
It gets a huge 9.

Brick - 8.5 : iMDB
This is one of my absolute favourite films, and there's not a lot that really needs to be said about it, just as the film itself portrays a somewhat underground language and scene from a high school, the film speaks for itself if you watch it, as it's brilliant.
Rian Johnson, director and writer has made an exceptional piece of work and for such a low budget film, it's important to get the right people to execute on your work.
With that, Joseph Gordon-Levitt provides a fantastic interpretation of this, and plays it very very well. I have to say I quite like Joseph anyway, and he has an up and coming film 'Don Jon' coming, which he's written, directed, and starred in himself which i'm excited to see how it turns out.
I recently picked Joseph as one of my 5 to look out for in the coming years, and he's coming in to his own right on time.
This film is a hefty 8.5, if you're not sure after 5 minutes, stick with it, it will reward you.

Get Rich or Die Tryin' - 6.2 : iMDB
The first of three on a quick-fire 3 film Friday night!
This is the 50Cent biopic, which is loosely(?) based on his life, let's get it out of the way, it's not the most brilliant film. There's quite a bit going on, and I think it's interesting to see, but I can't believe that most of this happened, probably some of it did, but at points it goes a little bit too far.
There's a fair bit of violence as you'd expect, and with it being one of his first acting appearances, even though he's playing himself, it's not a great performance.
I've given it a generous 6.2 because I was quite interested to learn some bits about him.

Identity Thief - 6.8 : iMDB
... and the second of the three I watched on the plane.
Jason Bateman... I'm not really sure what to make of him, I don't think he'll make it very far in serious films but he seems to have certainly found his niche, although there are elements of this film where he plays the role particularly well.
And what can really be said about Melissa McCarthy? She's electric, and has lit up every film she's been in. But her talents are no doubt limited, unless there's a serious hillbilly movie that needs a doting wife I don't think she'll be doing many serious parts any time soon, but perhaps she shouldn't, as her comedy is brilliant.
The film itself is quite simple, and lends to Melissa being able to show some reasonable work, I'm not convinced that there's much to it though. Again, another simple one that got me through the flight, not enough there to really make it a trademark comedy.
I've given it a 6.8.

Parker - 6.5 : iMDB
This was the first of three films I watched when I flew over to New York a couple of weeks ago.
Jason Statham doing what he always does, good cause, and with some retribution. They seem to like to stick to that formula with him, with it only going a little further away in Crank (which is brilliant btw!).
This film hit the spot for what was needed, just a nice simple film to make the time pass of getting across the pond, considering my laptop was out of battery!
It's actually not that bad a film, and I think Lopez plays a really good part.
It's not fantastic though, so i'd go for a simple 6.5.

Beasts of the Southern Wild - 7.5 : iMDB
Another that I watched while I was working over in Munich, and first up, I have to say I fell in love with little Hushpuppy! She's an adorable girl and faces up to all her fears head on.
The films pretty gritty, and at times a little hard to follow/watch, but it's definitely worth it. It reminded me a lot of perhaps how some of the relationships may have been strained during the aftermaths of events such as Katrina, or maybe even the Japanese Tsunami...

My Sisters Keeper - 7.6 : iMDB
Now this is a film i've seen before, but had forgotten about it so watched it again when I was recommended it... and it was definitely worth the second watch.
This touches on some very challenging issues, and makes you feel like you're a part of it or have a vested interest.
I think sadly Diaz lets this down slightly, but other than that it's a wonderful film.
It gets a .. 7.6!
Headhunters - 7.2 : iMDB
Watched this while I was off working in Munich...
I've read most of the Jo Nesbo books (apart from this one!), it's quite a far fetched story but it's put together for the big screen pretty well, it'll be interesting to see what Hollywood go and do with it in 2014...
The story is pretty gritty and it's got some traditional twists, it twists really well and keeps you going for a while.
I'd definitely recommend watching it! It gets a 7.2.

For A Good Time, Call - 6.8 : iMDB
This was part of a Wine Friday triple marathon, and I have to say, it confused the hell out of me but it was pretty funny, and broke up Get Rich or Die Tryin' and Brick nicely.
It's a simple standard RomCom with the usual storylines but spruced up with lots of sextalk and some dildos to make it funny!
There's not really much to say about this film but go ahead and watch it :-)
I've given it a 6.8, IMDb wasn't quite so generous!

Safety Not Guaranteed - 8.2 : iMDB
Aubrey Plaza, neither a name you're likely to be able to pronounce easily, or a name you'd want to forget too soon.
I have seen her around in a few films, but hadn't really noticed her too much until this one, where she plays a confident yet shy girl, who doesn't get on with the world.
Not one person in this film has their head screwed on, but in the most normal way possible, with everyone having everyday problems, pushed slightly to the boundary, and being honest about them.
I watched this on a plane, with free beer, and completely forgot about the beer. I think that's a sign for how much I actually liked this. It's quite simple, but has en

Wreck it Ralph - 6.5 : iMDB
Oops! I'd completely forgotten i'd watched this one!
That's not to say it's a bad film, I think I just watched a few that day and ran off to do something straight away.
This film is certainly a feel-good kids cartoon, and it's something I probably won't watch again, in contrast to some other absolutely fantastic kids films out there.
The premise is simple, the story is simple, and it's quite nice in the end, but let's not dwell on it!
If you've some kids to entertain, watch it. If you're over 25 and not stoned, keep clear. It gets a 6.5.

Sightseers - 6.7 : iMDB
Staring into the abyss...pretty much how I feel writing about this film! Part of me thought it was well written, put together with the cynicism of a goat, and dark/funny enough to warrant a reasonably high score.
On the other hand, I felt completely lost, partially because I probably didn't want to watch THIS type of film last night!
The film treads a very fine line between dark comedy, morbidity, and bizarre people.
Sticking to the general IMDb rule of if it's above 6.5, it won't kill you, I figured i'd give it a go, and it got added to my library from some list a while ago as one I should watch.
If you haven't got the patience, don't even think about it, but if you've got some time to spare, give it a go, don't be surprised if you end up turning it off though.
I'm going to squeeze it in just above the current IMDb rating, at 6.7.

Evil Dead - 7.5 : iMDB
I couldn't have picked a better bunch of people to watch this film with! I'm not a big fan of horrors or fright movies, not because they don't have a place, but more because I don't really get the same feeling of terror as most people do, so the buildup or apprehension doesn't hit me.
This is why it's all the more important that there's other people around me who do find it scary, disturbing, and build the anticipation a little more!
I actually thought the film was quite good - but there was some limitations to the reality of it, it gets a bit weird towards the end, shall we say inconsistent, but they do a really good job of building the tension for the frightening bits.
If you're after some late night scares, give it a watch, it's up there with a few.
Gets a higher number than I'd normally give because of the company I was in, watching them flinch was priceless! 7.5 it is!

The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy - 9.0 : wikipedia
Anybody who's anybody has watched the first two of these films, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz. If you haven't - I'd suggest you go and do that right now, or don't speak to me!
I went to see this with a couple of friends at the local Vue with all three films being aired, with the final instalment, World's End being aired at 00.20, and finishing just after 2AM.
Watching all three together definitely made for some absolutely astonishing viewing, the first two are fabulous films with a great deal of humour in both, and I think watching the two first, and then the third immediately after added to that sense of excellence.
I think you'll probably find when you watch it, that there are some very very funny parts, and there's actually quite a lot of references between the three films that add to the validity of the 'trilogy' tag.
Either way - get on and watch them, and I've given them a 9.

Searching for Sugar Man - 8.2 : iMDB
I had no idea what this film was going to be about, i'd simply been recommended it from a list of "20 films of 2012 that must be seen". And it didn't really let down.
It's an inspiring story of how the world is fickle and talent will shine in the right circumstance. While the world is a fair place, even if your music is good, you still need it to be the right time, something which stands true for many walks of life.
Without giving the story away too much, as it's something you really need to experience without me going on and spoiling it for you! It's about a little known music man from America, who doesn't really make it big, but has a large fan base in South Africa.
It's quite emotional, and quite well put together, and while not really a film, I felt I should write about it anyway!
It gets a great 8.2. Get it watched!

Man of Steel : 7.7 - iMDB
And what can be said about this? It's very difficult to enter into a film like Superman with its 400th reincarnation, but I tried to do exactly that, blanking out the much loved humour existant in the older films, forgetting who or what Zod was/is, and all the other things we've learned to love about Superman over the years.
I think what Zack Snyder has done with toughening Clark up, giving him a rugged background and challenging strife through his childhood was good, but I'm not entirely sure that enough time was spent building that backstory, and it was a little bit simple in the way it lays the breadcrumbs out that are then followed through as the film goes on.
It lends quite a lot from recent blockbusters, and even not so recent with some scenes reminiscent of Independence Day, Transformers, and Iron Man.
Either way, as an alone, I quite liked the new take, and look forward to seeing what they do with the next one, and as such....7.7!

Piggy - 7.1 : iMDB
I'd almost forgotten i'd watched this film! That's not to say it's a bad film, just I didn't watch it at home.
It's yet another gritty British thriller that tries to present opportunities for self reflection, and tries to push the boundaries of the acceptable.
I actually quite liked it, but the ending was a little bit flat, and in the sense of the movie didn't make a lot of sense....or perhaps it did thinking about it, make your own mind I guess, because i'd recommend watching it, partially because it's a British film, but it's a simple view.
It's bumped up to 7.1 for the homegrown nature.

The Man From Earth - 8.7 : iMDB
Now this is a film for the ages, and definitely one people should take in repeatedly. I don't often watch films twice, but i've been meaning to watch this one again for a while.
It essentially revolves around a man that's leaving his job, to move to a new location, and tries to avoid a leaving party but is ambushed at his home as he's packing. The story goes through tearing apart popular belief, challenging preconceptions, and gives a fantastic alternate view on life.
I recommend it to all, and most definitely pay attention all the way through, as absolutely every word matters.
It gets a whopping 8.7, because while the story is fantastic, the visualisation is probably slightly lacking.

Killing them Softly - 6.9 : iMDB
I was hoping for really good things from this film, it looked like it would have a great story with some worthwhile life lessons.
What I found was something very different, a big cast with a lazy story. Don't get me wrong, it's alright, but it's just not quite what I was hoping for!
Brad Pitt does a decent job and has an important role to play and the film unravels, many words for words sake though.
I've given it a 6.9, as I'm not sure it quite justifies a 7! Take it in if you like Brad.

Fast & Furious 6 - 7.2 : iMDB
I'm not a huge fan of the Fast and Furious films, probably because while I did enjoy the first one, because it was different, fast cars, and had some good entertainment, the rest have simply failed to turn up, I mean, Tokyo Drift? Please!
Saying that, there have been a couple of decent other ones, and I have continued to watch them. This one brings back the big cast, and has Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson on the same team, fighting together in certain scenes, that's not something to be baulked at!
Gotta say, there was some real entertainment, good chases, races, and a tank. There's a plane with a ridiculously long runway, but all in all it's put together in good humour, and suited perfectly for the kind of film I needed at the time.
I won't rate it too highly though, and it gets a 7.2, which for an F&F, is pretty good in my books.

Premium Rush - 7.1 : iMDB
Well this was a surprise! I went through the Sky Anytime list and added a bunch of films, and this was one of them.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has long been one of my favorites, with a little-known film called Brick being my favorite of his lot.
Anyway, back to this one! It starts Levitt as a bike messenger with a taste for danger, and has a good take on a fairly standard dirty cop, wrong time wrong place story. Saying this, it's quite a good take, with a nice view of the difficulties of bike messengers! (Can't for a moment think that it's all true!)
There's a bit of love, a bit of danger, and a sob story to go with it.
It's not brilliant, but some of the 'effects' are quite good, and it's definitely worth a watch.
It gets a 7.1, so go ahead and watch it!

Broken City - 6.6 : iMDB
I've been sat pondering what to write about this for a few minutes, and actually, i'm still not sure, but here goes!
It has me thinking a lot about Wahlbergs direction talents, and it kind of gives me the feeling that he wants to create something big, with huge impact, that has some great story behind it, but he once again comes up just a little short.
While the story was quite good, it didn't differ enough to make it hard hitting. Films like Four Brothers and perhaps Contraband come to mind...
It starts extremely slowly, builds up quite well, and then has a somewhat muddy finish. While i'm at it, Zeta Jones is awful, and Russell Crowe, this isn't Gladiator.
Disappointed in what it could have been, but not enough to give it a sub-6.
Worth a watch if there's nothing else on, or if for some reason you have a crush on Wahlberg!
It gets a 6.6.

Retreat - 7.2 : iMDB
After finishing this i'm ashamed to say I stopped it and resumed it the following day, not because of the film, but because of visiting friends!
It's taught me a few things, firstly, don't judge a film until the absolutely final scene, they're as important as any, and sometimes define the entire scenery.
The other important one, Jamie Bell really is fantastic. I've now downloaded and watched his entire back catalogue and I can't say there's been any that have really disappointed me!
So on to the film, well, unexpectedly I actually really enjoyed it, it pulls and pushes you left and right, tries to grab emotions and puts the cast in awkward positions.
I'd recommend watching it - but make sure that you have time, and that you're in the right frame of mind, as you'll need to pay attention!
It gets a 7.2.

After Earth - 6.2 : iMDB
I guess there are limits to Will Smiths talents!
I went to see this at the cinema last night (Friday), having briefly seen the dismal 4.8 rating it's received on iMDB, and the lingering thoughts that in reality, this was just Will wanting to boost Jaden Smiths profile, and his CV.
It starts out really very slow, and ultimately the premise of the film is very simple, a traditional boy becomes man, forges relationship with estranged father, etc, etc.
The world they've created was an interesting one but nothing really that far-fetched, and I think they probably could have spent a bit more time on it, with the film coming in at a mere 1h 40m, but having massive special effects.
I'm not going to go on too long, so i'll just end with the simple summary: don't bother.
I've given it a 6.2, because it's not awful, but if you want the story, there's many others that do it better, and if you want the effects, then again, many more around. The bonus is that Big Willy Smith is in it.

Gangster Squad - 7.6 : iMDB
This film has a significant cast, and when I first spotted it coming out, I was hoping for big things!
If you haven't looked already, it's about an undercover team of cops trying to take down a mob boss by crushing his operations, rather than him personally, and is based loosely on a true story. The cast includes two of my current top 5 in Ryan Gosling and Michael Peña, as well as an old favorite in Josh Brolin, and the up and coming Emma Stone.
When the film started I wasn't too impressed with some of the scenery and the way it was being set up or laid out, but as the film went on I started to feel my way in to it more, with Gosling and Brolin playing two very good parts, and Pena having a small but rewarding part too.
In the end I think while they've taken quite a lot of creative license with the story, and put quite a lot of Hollywood in to it, it's actually not so bad, and it comes together quite nicely, if not a bit stuffed with some poor montaging!
Either way, give it a watch and see what you think. I've given it a 7.6.

Savages - 8.0 : iMDB
I read the description of this film over and over again but couldn't for the life of me remember why I had it to watch..but of course it was a recommendation from a friend who raved about it.
And they weren't mistaken, I hadn't realised the cast involved in this film, but if you look there's some heavy hitters in waiting. And they don't really disappoint, although Aaron Taylor-Johnson who I must admit I've new seen before, plays his part very well.
This is a story of eroding personalities, changing fortunes, and love at its best. I really enjoyed it, and didn't notice it was over 2hours long, which is always a good thing!
I would say it's a film you should definite watch, so add it to your lists!
I've given it an even 8, in opposition to iMDBs paltry 6.5!

Life of Pi - 9.0 : iMDB
I've been waiting a good while to watch this film, but figured I should get it out of the way, and boy was it worth the wait!
I'd heard many good things, and of course the oscars that were flying around it, and the previous works of Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger / Brokeback) speak for themselves, but this one really is another class.
The outstanding graphical aesthetics go a long way towards doing the exceptional story justice, which is told beautifully, ensuring every opportunity is given to the viewer to make their own mind up without prejudice or preconception.
If you haven't already, then watch this immediately, and if you have, then watch it again!
I wanted to hold off with giving any 9 or above for a truly exceptional film, but felt this was more than worthy of being the first to make it into the heady heights.
I've given it a simple 9.0.

The Good Doctor - 6.7 : iMDB
So I was pondering why I'd got this film, and it's been sitting waiting for me to watch it for a while...then I realised as it started, it's because it's part of the Michael Peña back catalog, and I have to say its reminiscent of his old films that didn't grab my attention at all but he does play his part quite well.
Orlando Bloom stars as the doctor, and I'm not a huge fan of his but his personality certainly fits this role. The film takes a bit of getting used to, and I guess shows the struggles of being a doctor, and how the decisions you make can impact not just your life but everyone elses too.
It's not the quickest of movies, and for a film which should probably make you sit back and think a bit more, I think it struggled to do that, at least for me, and I therefor won't be recommending it very highly. But if you like Bloom, which I certainly did in Elizabethtown (may be more because of Dunst & the film), then I'm not going to stop you from watching it!
It gets a balmy 6.7.

Place beyond the Pines - 7.5 : iMDB
And here's the third of the day! I started watching at the end of my bottle of wine and had managed to ascertain some chocolate.
I've been waiting a while to watch this film as I had some pretty high hopes, especially with the cast of Gosling, Cooper, and Mendes.
It looked from the trailers like a really good movie, with a deep seeded emotional story about the battle between family and society, which is clear throughout. There is however an issue.
The film is clearly structured in to three different parts, with the first setting the scene, and starring Gosling, where he plays his part superbly. The second features Cooper and Liotta, Liotta being no different than all his other recent parts, which smacks of lazy casting, while Cooper following on from having watched Silver Linings Playbook a few weeks ago, again gives an assured showing, and I have to say, he's quickly becoming my favorite for this year, with his part to play in Hangover 3 too. (Matthew McConaughey may have something to say on this)
And finally, the third is solely Cooper, with Goslings in film boy showing what he can do. When it got to this point I felt it had probably gone a little bit too far and was getting reasonably predictable.
All the same, it's a very poignant story that i'd recommend to watch, but unfortunately didn't live up to the standard i'd hoped, and therefor receives a reasonably average 7.5.

Stay - 7.9 : iMDB
It would appear to have turned in to a Ryan Gosling day, as i'm pretty sure i'll be watching Place beyond the Pines later on.
Disapprovingly, I started this film off by opening a bottle of red wine..which may not have helped considering that the film is quite trippy.
I had a good read of this, not so much the article, but the comments afterwards which I think highlighted the fact that the article writer simply dismissed the movie, and didn't know who Gosling was, even in 2006, that's shameless surely, especially since he'd already done The Notebook.
There's a lot of symbolism in the film, and there's so many hidden hints as to the real story, and what it's really about, but then as it makes the big reveal, the director can't help but throw in just a tiny little bit more.
I actually, on hindsight, really enjoyed this film, and while i'll probably never watch it again, it's definitely worth a watch.
Bearing all this in mind, it's worth at least a 7.9.

All Good Things - 7.3 : iMDB
I've had this one waiting to watch for a while, with it being one of only two older Ryan Gosling films that i'm yet to watch, I figured i'd get it out of the way before I move on to the newer Gangster Squad/Place Beyond the Pines/Only God Forgives.
I must admit I hadn't heard or read much about the real Robert Durst (David Marks) story, which i've now acquainted myself with.
The story is put together quite well but could probably have expanded some more on the activities. Yet again though, i've got to say that Gosling plays his part well, while Dunst has a good first half cameo in the film.
It gets 7.3, and if you've some time, i'd recommend watching it, but don't go out of your way to do so.

Hangover III - 7.6 : iMDB
I have to say that having watched the first two of these, I probably wasn't expecting all that much as while I enjoyed them, they're very simple films with light humour.
The same goes for this one, but I took the stance of just letting the film do its bidding and just watched, instead of analysing.
Indeed, it was certainly quite funny, with some very classic gags, and Alan is one of the best characters to have hit the screens recently, and given this is the last of the series, he was given a very fitting sendoff.
I've given it a 7.6, which is possibly a little low for the amount I enjoyed it, but it really is very simple, but a good entertaining filler.

The Double - 6.2 : iMDB
I was surprised to see Richard Gere in a film I'd watch, not because I don't like him, just because I can't remember seeing him since Pretty Woman, or seeing him in person when he was filming First Knight back home in Wales.
The film itself isn't the most inspiring of story lines, sticking quite closely to the tried and tested, but bursting the big secret early to try and distract from the otherwise unexpected.
I can't say it was overly exciting, but it kept me somewhat entertained while I did my ironing, and I have to say I quite liked the part played by Topher Grace.
It gets a 6.2, just simply because it's not bad enough not to watch, but I wouldn't recommend paying to see it.

Nowhere Boy - 7.3 : iMDB
One of the important things to note about this film is the disagreement from Paul McCartney about the accuracy.
Getting that out of the way, watching it I felt the story was quite a good one, and it certainly whet the appetite for getting to know the Beates more. I recently watched the Sky Arts show about Lennon (should he have not been successful), and found the attitude of both characters to be reasonably similar.
I have to say though, for what I saw, it was a really good story, if not a little disjointed at times, and I struggle to see that John had such an overwhelming power over the rest of the band, but I do see how that really added to the story that was being told.
If nothing else, it's given me an overwhelming urge to go and visit the extremely expensive Beatles Experience in Liverpool.
Should John be as talented as it appears in the film, i'm extremely intrigued to find out how he got there.
I've given it a 7.3, which bears in mind that it's unlikely to be wholly true, but the story isn't all that bad.

Gulliver's Travels - 6.2 : iMDB
I'm not very often surprised by iMDB ratings, but i'm surprised by this receiving a 4.8!
I've got to say, if i'd have watched this after 8pm, or any time when I had something else to do, i'd probably have rated it the same, but it's a classic story, which has been told with the humour it deserves, but perhaps adapted a little too far.
Jack Black is one of my favorite low end actors there is, and he has no shame whatsoever, which serves the purpose of the film beautifully.
I watched this when I had a bunch of spare time and nothing else to do, so I quite enjoyed the break.
I've given it a lovely 6.2.

Welcome
Hey!
So - I normally write on Twitter when i've got an opinion, or rather when i've watched any film, and give it a short and sweet review, but it's proved challenging to fit in some good opinions so I figured i'd extend on that.
For some of the films this year i'm going to go back and will make some comments, but for most i'll just put an opinion once i've watched them.
I watch quite a few so there should be quite a few short and sweet posts! :-)
enjoy!
